Meta Growth is one step closer to opening its retail cannabis stores in Ontario.

Canada’s largest publicly traded recreational cannabis retailer, Meta Growth, announced that both of its winning partners in the Ontario cannabis store lottery have received their Retail Operators License.

“Receipt of their Retail Operators License is a major milestone for the lottery winners,” said Meta Growth CEO, Mark Goliger.

The company’s first Ontario stores will open at 378 Yonge Street in Toronto and 589 Fairway Road South in Kitchener.

“The last step to open these stores is to pass store inspection and, considering the construction is in its final stage, we expect this in a matter of days for Toronto and a few weeks for Kitchener,” said Goliger.

The Toronto location will be the company’s first Canadian store opened under the newly redesigned Meta Cannabis Co. brand. Goliger previously described the new store concept as “a solid first step to spark Meta Growth’s expansion across the province.”

Meta Growth currently has 36 licences and 34 stores operating in its network. By the end of 2020, the company plans to have a network of 90 retail cannabis stores operating across Canada.

In December, Ontario stipulated that until August 31, 2020, retail operators may own up to 10 cannabis stores. Beginning in September that number could increase to 30.
